Three Not-So-Unrelated Things (…and more!)

A powerful hankerin’ to replay Portal spurred me to finally install Steam on this machine, which led to the following completely related things:

1) They went and release realMYST on Steam earlier this week. This is a fully-rendered freeform version of Myst, where you actually walk around and explore the island rather than click-click-click through a series of hotspots. It’s my favorite version of Myst, but I haven’t been able to play it for years due to its frustrating aversion to running on WinXP and/or Win7. The version up on Steam claims that modern OSes are “unofficially supported”, which gave me pause, but it was only five bucks and some dudes on the forums had figured out a decent workaround. To my pleasant surprise, the game runs perfectly on my system. Huzzah!

2) Months and months ago — more than a year, probably — they had a sale where Half-Life was only about a buck. I was broke at the time, so my good buddy Gredlen purchased the game for me. And then I forgot all about it. Well, there it was sitting on my Steam list, so now I’m finally ready to plug that giant screaming hole in my gaming background. Double huzzah!

3) Instead of playing Portal, I instead spent most of today playing Homestuck Vol. 5 in Audiosurf. (The bulk of the Super Street Fighter IV soundtrack was fun, too.)

Two more totally-related-to-gaming things, bringing the total up to five:

4) Planescape-themed Mafia has begun. It’s been too long since I got to flex my Mafia muscles (if ever I had any). I can’t wait to dig in and kick some dudes’ asses.

5) I played The Legend of Zelda in a way you can totally watch.

Also, a warning: tomorrow’s post will probably be about the film Inception. I’m seeing it again this afternoon and have a mental list of things I want to pay very close attention to.
