Movie review: The Wrestler

I slept in too late today, and combined with the errands I had to run didn’t have time to shoot and edit a vlog. So I’ll do that tonight, and post it tomorrow. I actually feel pretty good about this because the delay wasn’t caused by laziness or procrastination, but rather by productivity; I was up all night last night writing an RMN review. The key to not missing vlog updates in the future isn’t going to be a matter of “get off your lazy ass and do it” so much as “be smarter about budgeting your time between everything else that’s going on”.

I own a ton of movies that I’ve never watched. A lot of these are ones Fiancee brought with her when we combined our collections, but on top of that I just buy a lot of movies that I don’t get around to actually viewing. Maybe I just get off on removing the shrink wrap, or something. (By the way, there should be internment camps for people who just slice open the sticker that keeps their DVD boxes sealed and then leave it there forever. I’m mortified whenever I grab a movie off my shelf and find that part of that sticker has survived somehow. I feel it reflects directly on me as a person.)

Anyway I think I made a post a while ago about wanting to rectify this problem, but then I didn’t actually do it. Unlike my missing vlog, this probably is just the result of laziness, so I’m turning it over to you guys. Here’s a list of all the DVDs on my shelf. What should I subject myself to, and write about here?

The List

  1. 50 First Dates
  2. American Gangster
  3. American Pie: Band Camp

Hopefully you can tell the difference between which movies I haven’t watched because I just haven’t gotten around to it, and which I haven’t watched because I think Finacee has an abysmal taste in movies. Either way I get the odd feeling I have Care Bears in my future.

Oh yeah, here’s my review of The Wrestler: it was awesome and you should watch it.

  • National Treasures… It’s like a poor man’s, American flag waving, mash-up of Indiana Jones and DaVinci Code.

… Wait, you have Little Mermaid 3 and you haven’t watched it yet? Are you feeling ok?

  • 4. Anchorman
    10. Constantine
    25. Knocked Up
    31. Meet the Parents
    42. Taken
    45. Wedding Crashers

These are movies I have watched and would watch again.

If you have the Unrated Version you should listen to the Anchorman Commentary Track. It’s a really funny series of skits starring the director, Adam McKay, Will Ferrel and a host of other actors (some of whom weren’t even in the movie). Also, they get Lou Rawls to come in and commentate with them for about 20 minutes. Very random and VERY funny. Watch it with some of your buddies.

    Good:
    4. Anchorman
    5. The Aristocats
    25. Knocked Up
    31. Meet the Parents
    45. Wedding Crashers

    Okay:
    2. American Gangster
    19. Grease
    30. Meet the Fockers

    Bad:
    1. 50 First Dates
    21. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
    32. Miss Congeniality 2
    35. National Treasure

The rest I haven’t seen. The Aristocrats is definitely the most interesting of the ones on my Good list, being as how it’s a documentary about a dirty joke instead of just a comedy. National Treasure could almost make the Okay list if I was in the right mood.
