Unrelated Thing #1: Mafia is up and running again. Different rules, different game… should be fun. At least now I’ll have something to fill the long nights at work with other than staring blankly at my cubicle wall and slowly going mad.
Unrelated Thing #2: Tonight we watched The Men Who Stare At Goats, a film about military research into psychic powers. The movie opens with a message: “More of this is true than you would believe.” Indeed.
When I initially saw the trailer for this film I expected it to be a more realistic (though still humorous) look at the actual research that went on… a sort of tongue-in-cheek examination of some of the silly or downright stupid things our government has funded. Instead it was a fictional account of how these so-called Jedi powers were developed and how they worked in the field.
They really played up the “are they real? or are they crazy?” aspect of the magic powers, and the ending was left pretty ambiguous. The movie itself was perfectly enjoyable… but I think I’d have prefered seeing the movie I thought it was going to be more.
So here’s a summary of the movie: Ewan MacGregor, George Clooney, Jeff Bridges, Kevin Spacey spend 90 minutes doing wacky things onscreen for no absolutely clearly-defined reason. If that sounds enjoyable to you, I say go for it.
Unrelated Thing #3: Patty up two large, thin burgers. Fold a square of American cheese into quarters, and stack the four quarters up on one of the patties. Place the other patty on top and form a tight seal all the way around. Grill this mess up a couple minutes on each side; poke a hole in the top with a toothpick right after you flip it to let the steam escape.
I give you: the juicy loosey. You’re welcome.
