Backloggery

I’ve known about backloggery.com for a little while now, but didn’t have any burning desire to plug my own collection in for analysis. I’d like to make a consicous effort to finish some of the uncompleted games I have laying around, though, so I figured I’d better get on the ball. Here’s where I stand at the moment:

All in all, not really as bad as I was expecting. My overlarge NES collection, stuffed with games I’ve played but will never go back to, skews my “Unfinished” statistic a bit. (I also own quite a few NES games I have no intention of ever playing; the site has a “Null” flag for games like this.) It’s my unplayed Xbox library I should focus on most; that I still have games like Bionic Commando and Kameo sitting there partially finished is a crime.

I have more “Mastered” games than I thought I would, although that’s inflated a tad by counting each chapter of FF4: The After Years as a separate game. Browsing some other backlogs at random, it seems some people are more liberal with the usage of the “Mastered” icon. I found one guy who awarded himself with mastery of some Kirby game because he got 100% completion. That’s not mastery. Mastery would be getting 100% completion while being chased by rabid wolves, or suspended in a tank of water. I’ve only given myself the icon for games I’ve literally memorized or completed crazy challenge runs in, which more or less means nothing newer than 1993.

The real challenge will be to see if I remember to keep this information updated going forward, or if I’ll wake up this time next year and be like “oh yeah, that, I forgot about that.” We’ll see!

I enjoy updating mine, although I really could not tell you why. I have hit something of a dilemma though in when should I include emulated stuff. I am pretty good about deleting games I physically own when I no longer have them, but when should I include or delete a game I am unabashedly and quite illegally Jolly Rogering on a gamepad?

I eventually settled on including a game after playing it for two hours, but have no real set system for when I should delete a game I am never going to touch again.

It’s especially a crime when both Kameo and Bionic Commando are so very good!
