Two Years Etc.

…and somewhere in there, scibbe.com turned two years old. The archives are big and bloated enough now that I can’t keep them in my working memory. I’m pretty sure I’ve managed to keep the whole thing daily, but I couldn’t swear to it at this point.

I want to change the site somewhat, but I’m not sure how. For one, it looks like garbage on my mobile phone. Do people need to be able to read my nonsense on their Droids? I don’t know, but I think it would be nice to give them the option.

One major project I need to undertake is to go back and completely overhaul the categories I’ve been using on these posts. I just kind of winged it when I was starting out, and now I fear I’m to the point where they’re mostly useless. And I haven’t been using tags at all, because in 2009 I didn’t see the functional difference between the two, but now I do and feel bad for internetting wrong all this time.

Finally, I think I’m going to flip off the thing that makes your comments sit in a box until I manually go in and let them out. I originally turned that feature on because the site was getting spammed by penis pills and other garbage, but I think the plug-in I’m using takes pretty good care of things now. Having to approve comments means they all go live right at the same time, which stifles whatever discussion might blossom from my fevered posts. I’ve noticed an increase in the amount of comments and I want to nurture that small amount of growth.

So if a penis pill link gets through, please forgive me. (And also please take pictures of your spectacular new penis.)

Notes on current/future projects:

  • Yes, Survivor write-ups will happen this season. I haven’t watched any of it yet because of lingering worries that it is as bad as last season. I’m told it’s nowhere near that bad, so we might be in the clear. I’ll spend some quality time with the DVR this weekend and hopefully be current by week three or four.
  • There are going to be a lot more Breath of Fire posts in the near future. I blog about what I play, and right now that’s what I’m playing. All you dudes who were like, “man this cat digs on some Castlevania” can breathe easier now that we’ve entered this brave new frontier.
  • A new LP is going to go live on March 3. This will be the first time I’ve had three YouTube series running concurrently. A little cumbersome, I grant you, but I’ll make it work.

Thanks for reading, everyone!

If this comment goes live, let me be the first to say:
    FIRST!!!!!1!11!!!!!11!

Is it bad that “man this cat digs on some Castlevania” made me picture you as Roast Beef in a fedora?

Two episodes in and Survivor is indeed quite a bit better than the entirety of last season. Very watchable and interesting!

  • Can’t complain about more Breath of Fire rambling. It’s one of those series that needs more love. Maybe now that we’re done begging Capcom for Legends 3 and MVC3 It’s time they started working on Breath of Fire 6

Is Breath of Fire 3 similar to the first two games in the series? From what I played of those, even back when they were new, I found them to be completely rote and incredibly dull. I know the series apparently got all crazy and avant-garde with Dragon Quarter, but did 3 or 4 stand out as a particularly interesting game?

They are pretty similar, in the sense that they are fairly slow and plodding RPGs. However, they’re slow and plodding because of the crazy loving detail that goes into the character sprites and animations. BoF4 still has some of the most gorgeous spritework in any game, ever.

BoF1 is the only game that is really a by-the-numbers RPG. 2, 3 and 4 all at least try to do interesting things, with varying levels of success. (2 has character transformations, 3 has a somewhat complex skill system, and 4 has robust combo and party-swap mechanics.) I would say, though, that if you didn’t enjoy what you saw of the first two you probably wouldn’t like the next two.

Don’t forget that BoF1 let you fuse your more anthromorphic party members together with Karn for a similar effect to the sequel’s transformations. Of course, fusing party members with other party members does have a bigger drawback than fusing party members with some special elemental ladies…

  • 3 video LPs and a screenshot one. That’s pretty impressive!

Thank god for excessive amounts of LPs!
