Survivor: Redemption Island (episode eight)

Ladies and gentlemen, we are merged. Now the game starts for real. And you know? For a minute there I thought Matt was really going to start playing it. Andrea’s reaction when he uttered the phrase “blindside Rob” was absolutely unforgettable. You could tell she had never considered voting out Rob for even the […]

Comparing the Grind: FF12 vs. P3P

Sorry about the downtime, everyone! Here’s a good ol’ game design ramble to make up for it.

Here’s a real stumper: I adore grind-y games. But I absolutely hate grind-y games. Does that make sense? Because there’s grind-y, and then there’s grind-y. There are meters to fill, and then there are meters to fill. There’s […]

Let’s play Super Talking Time Bros.

The Golden Sun DS Instruction Manual is 53 Pages Long

This manual is gorgeous. It’s all the things a good instruction manual should be. It’s full-color, it’s packed with all the information you need to know to play the game, it introduces you to the world, the essential backstory and the characters. It even contains a map of the world! That’s as quaint as it […]

Developer Commentary

I just finished my second playthrough of Portal 2. It’s astounding how many puzzle solutions can slip your mind in less than forty hours.

I virtually never replay games… which means I virtually never replay games immediately upon completing them. Portal 2 is the first exception in a very, very long time. In fact, the […]

Jocelyn Beauregard, Private Eye (part twenty-one)

The trip was jerky and stressful, and the cab stalled out five or six times, and on one occasion just about rolled backwards down a hill and into a bakery, but through a combination of intuition, experimentation and Danny’s helpful foul-mouthed guidance Jocelyn managed to navigate the empty […]

Three Unrelated Things (That You Already Knew)

Thing the First: Portal 2 is amazing. But you already knew that.

Thing the Second: The new Game of Thrones series on HBO is amazing. But you already knew that too.

Thing the Third, and I’m actually cheating a little bit here, because this is at least tangentially related to Thing the First: I can’t […]

I made $10 by not pre-ordering Portal 2.

I don’t pre-order games. I don’t see the benefit of it. In fact, I’ve been burned several times in the past by pre-ordering hiccups, mainly caused by unscrupulous game store employees. All that aside, though, I am a simple man who likes simple monetary transactions. Like the one I had at Best Buy last night:

[…]

Some new game

I think it goes without saying that I’m too Portal to update today. Er, sorry about that. In any case, I hope you guys all have a good Portal.

Portal Portal.

Infinite Pac-Man

I spent about twenty minutes playing with this dumb internet thing today. If you spend half that time with it, I will consider my daily quota of “keeping you people amused” to have been met.

Infinite Pac-Man

Hope you like eating thousands of dots and reading peoples’ initials!
